About us

AnimalHuman Studies is a fast growing interdisciplinary field which researches the complex relationship between animals and between humans and other animals. What place do other animals have in the cultural and social world of humans? In what ways do people try to communicate with animals and vice verse? In AnimalHuman Studies many different disciplines work together: socials sciences (sociology, anthropology, psychology, political science, geography), humanities (history, linguistics, literature studies, media studies, philosophy), natural sciences (ethology, animal sciences, animal welfare studies, comparative psychology).

The Centre for AnimalHuman Studies in the Netherlands is a platform for all the researchers, teachers, students and others from the humanities, social and natural sciences in the Netherlands who focus on the relationship between humans and other animals, culture and society. The Centre for AnimalHuman Studies is primarily intended as a network for everyone interested in or studying the relationship between humans and animals.

The Centre was founded by students Caatje Kluskens and Fien Lindelauff, and Human-Animal Studies teacher Maarten Reesink.
